FBI agents and Essex County prosecutor’s office arrested Shawn Curtis on Friday in connection to a violent home invasion in New Jersey that was captured on a nanny cam.
Authorities located the suspect in the lobby of an apartment building on 10th Avenue in Manhattan and arrested him about an hour after securing a warrant for his arrest.
The 42-year-old man faces multiple charges, including burglary, attempted murder, robbery, and child endangerment. Bail was set at $750,000.
The home invasion occurred in Millburn, New Jersey last Friday. A nanny cam above the fireplace hearth recorded the crime.
In the video, a woman and a small child can be seen sitting on a sofa and watching TV. A man bursts in and starts beating the woman. The terrified child hid under pillows on the sofa.
"I knew that if I started screaming, my daughter would too, and I was afraid she would get hurt. I took it. I didn't cry the entire time," the mother told News 12 New Jersey .
The video was broadcast nationwide.
"It was a horrific and brutal crime and detectives and the FBI did a really good job cooperating together to bring this individual to justice," Anthony Ambrose, chief of detectives, told The Star-Ledger.
Curtis could face 10 to 20 years if he is convicted of attempted murder. He faces an additional three to five years if he is convicted of burglary charge.
