Else where, celebrities sing the praises of their mothers. Hollywood Life reports on some early mother day shout outs via social media. Paula Abdul, Pink, and Yoko Ono are among the choir of mom-lovers. Jessica Simpson tweeted a picture of her son reading her parenting book, The Honest Life.
But it's not all hoorays. The Washington Times reports on the holiday's meager beginnings. The president at the time, Woodrow Wilson, wrote a simple proclamation that flags be flown on the second Sunday of May in honor of America's moms. He didn't once mention flowers or candy.
The Huffington Post posted an article suggesting replacing the usual gifts with a day of freedom from the stress of motherhood.
