There's a lot going on in the political realm all of a sudden. If you just want to know what the people on the radio are talking about, here's a quick run down of the current scandals.
1. Benghazi: The longest covered scandal concerns a conflict in Beghazi, Libya in which the American ambassador to Libya, two security personnel, and an information officer were killed during an attack on the embassy by terrorists on September 11, 2012. The White House's initial reaction to the event was that the attack an impromptu reaction to a Youtube video which disparaged Islam. This has since been resolved as an inaccurate interpretation as the attack was planned and unrelated to any protest of the video. The scandal is that members of the government, including President Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, were either misinformed or were lying to the American people. As reported by The Washington Times the biggest chunk of the scandal is the lack of information.
2. Invasion of privacy on news agencies: The New York Daily News reports on the inherent scariness found in this scandal. Supposedly, the government investigated the phone records of members of the Associated Press after a terrorist related story was published. Detractors claim that this balks in the face of the constitutional Freedom of the Press.
3. The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) targeted conservative groups: The most popular scandal this week seems to be that the IRS used such keywords as 'Tea Party' when reviewing taxes, especially scrutinizing the related submissions. Today, the head of the section of the IRS that deals with tax exemptions pleaded her Fifth Amendment rights, according to Reuters. Her decision to remain silent is not to be taken as a sign of guilt, but most can't help but wonder what she does not want to say.
