Rare 'Superman' comic book found in abandoned home auctions for over $100k

A Superman comic book worth more than $100,000 was found in an abandoned home in Elbow Lake, Minnesota. David Gonzalez bought the home for $10,000 and was working on fixing it up when he found it in the wall.

When he found the comic book he discovered it was a rare find – a 1938 Action Comics #1, the first time Superman appears.

“I knew it was worth money,” Gonzalez, 34,” said, “But I had no idea how much,” The Minnesota Post reports.

According to USA Today, if the comic was in pristine condition, it would go for over $2 million. However, since it’s been a wall for all of this time its value has decreased. Even so, it has received tons of bids and the highest has been $113,000. The auction doesn’t end until June 11.

It was already in poor condition, but when he invited his family over to the house to see what he had found, his wife’s aunt grabbed at the comic book and the cover ripped.

"That was a $75,000 tear,” the owner of the auction house said.

Gonzalez plans on buying a 1992 Camaro IROC Z2, his wife will get to go back to school and they will pay off their home and car.
