'Dead Accounts' starring Katie Holmes to close early on Broadway

Dead Accounts, starring Katie Holmes, will close on Broadway seven weeks ahead of schedule on January 6, 2013.

"I am extremely proud of this production and the cast. Theresa Rebeck and Jack O'Brien have created an inspiring and hilarious new play and we are all sad to see Dead Accounts end on Broadway. I look forward to working with this remarkably talented cast and creative team again very soon," said producer Jeffrey Finn in a statement, according to E! News.

The play was originally supposed to end its run on February 24, 2013, but it will close after 27 preview performances and 44 regular performances at the Music Box Theatre.

Holmes starred in Dead Accounts as a woman from Ohio whose secret-harboring brother returns home to his family after a long time away. The play received mixed reviews and struggled at the box office.

According to The New York Times, for the week ending December 23, Dead Accounts made just under 25 percent of its potential gross at the Music Box Theatre.

Aside from Dead Accounts, David Mamet's The Anarchist closed December 16 after only 23 previews and 17 regular shows. It starred Broadway legend Patti LuPone and Debra Winger.
