Rapper Yo Gotti charged with felony for shooting in nightclub parking lot

Memphis-born rapper Yo Gotti, whose real name is Mario Mims, has been charged with a felony for his alleged involvement in a Thanksgiving weekend shooting that took place in a nightclub parking lot, authorities in Tennessee told the Associated Press.

Gotti, 30, surrendered to Memphis police late Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. The rapper is one of 11 men who face charges of inciting a riot and aggravated riot stemming from the incident at Memphis’ Level II nightclub.

Gotti and rival rapper O.G. Boo Dirty allegedly began brawling before shots were exchanged when a third person attempted to intervene. Court affidavits reveal that five men were wounded by gunshots in the early morning of November 29.

The "Touchdown" rapper, who has collaborated with such noteworthy artists as Lil Wayne and the Clipse, issued a written statement through his attorney, Art Horne, to address the charges.

“He just wanted his fans and the public to know that he doesn’t condone that type of behavior, and that again, he plans to deal with the charges that have been filed against him,” Horne told HipHopDX.com.

“Once he comes back and deals with the allegations, I think his name will be cleared.”
