Vudu Inc. plans to cast its spell to revolutionize the movie download system with their new device, which allows viewers to download movies to be watched directly on your TV set.
The small box is still a prototype, but already caught the attention and support of several major Hollywood studios. Similar to the recently launched Apple TV, Vudu's device eliminates the need of a computer to download your movies.
Connected to the Internet and to your TV, the box makes the movies play instantly after the costumer buys or rents one of more than 5,000 available titles; and their library keeps growing.
However, some experts are still skeptical about Vudu's magic, especially if the movie's download won't be cheaper than a DVD or if customers will want to pile another gadget in their already packed living rooms.
The initial cost of Vudu box is estimated around $300 and the company plans to add TV shows, music and video games to its service, studying the possibility to eliminate their boxes, making downloads through satellite boxes, high definition televisions or video game consoles.
Let's wait to see if the small Vudu Inc. will be able to compete with giants of technology like Microsoft, Apple or Google.
